This month we support Banc dels Aliments:

The concept of “Food Bank” was born in Phoenix, Arizona (USA) in 1966 by John van Engel. Almost twenty years later, in 1984, the project was introduced in Europe through the Paris Food Bank. And after three years, in 1987, the first Food Bank of Spain was founded in Barcelona, under the name Fundació Privada Banc dels Aliments. The Banc dels Aliments, represents, therefore, a pioneering institution in the state scope.

 

MISSION AND VALUES:

The fight against waste: searching for new sources of “consumable but not marketable” products to redistribute them among the most needy, promoting their use through “solidarity networks of proximity”, reducing the ecological footprint by unnecessary transport.

The fight against hunger: helping to alleviate poverty and social exclusion, allocating food surpluses recovered and distributing them through specialized and approved social entities that have social canteens, reception centers and that distribute lots to families.
